Even though the refrigerator was out of order, the food did not mold, thus I and my roommates were very happy but when I opened  refrigerator yesterday, some of the food was moldy and the new refrigerator came home yesterday.

Susan parked it two blocks away so that no one would know that the car was out of order, but her roommate Mary found out and got very angry, so Susan runs away from Mary.

In Reading and Listening, I usually first draft a sentence with the words I know, but this draft exists only in my mind. Then, if I'm stuck on some words, I try to understand what they mean.
